J.D. is a pianist and likes learning new songs and covers to play on the piano. In his free time, J.D. enjoys playing football, basketball and video games. He is an avid reader and especially enjoys Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. J.D.'s favorite school subject is math and he would like to pursue a career in the medical field. He participated in the 2009 Scripps National Spelling Bee. His brother, Juan Miguel, participated in the 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
