Akshay plays violin and piano and is a member of his school's advanced orchestra. He enjoys math and science and has participated in state Mathcounts and Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering competitions. He is also a member of the Junior Amarillo Swim Team. Akshay's favorite sport is tennis, which he often practices on his Nintendo Wii. He would like to become a surgeon. Akshay's sister, Anjali, participated in the 2005 and 2008 national finals.
